The Riddle of the Whispering Stream

Lily skipped along the riverbank, her favorite spot in the whole world. The water sparkled like diamonds in the sunlight, and she could hear it whispering secrets as it flowed over smooth stones. Today, something strange caught her eye—a golden pathway leading right into the river itself!

Without thinking, Lily stepped onto the glowing path. Instead of getting wet, she walked straight across the water as if it were solid glass. On the other side stood an enormous sphinx with emerald eyes and wings like sunset clouds.

"Welcome, young adventurer," the sphinx purred. "I guard the Enchanted Garden, where plants can dance and sing. But first, you must solve my riddle: I'm green and leafy, full of might, I give you strength to fight the night. What am I?"

Lily's face scrunched up in thought. She looked around desperately and spotted something peculiar—a little garden zombie! But this wasn't a scary monster like in her big brother's video games. It was a cute, mossy creature with flower-pot feet and a daisy growing from its head, shuffling slowly through the garden rows.

The zombie creature stopped near a patch of vibrant green plants and pointed with a leafy finger. Lily gasped. "Spinach!"

"Correct!" The sphinx's wings fluttered with delight. "You have shown wisdom and kindness. The zombie, whose name is Sprout, was once a regular gardener. He loved this garden so much that when he grew old, the magic of this place transformed him into its eternal guardian."

Sprout the zombie shuffled over and handed Lily a fresh spinach leaf. When she ate it, she felt warmth spread through her whole body—like being hugged by sunshine. "Thank you, Sprout!" she beamed.

The sphinx nodded. "Remember, Lily: real strength comes from kindness, from listening to others, and from keeping an open heart. Even the strangest friends can teach us the most important lessons."

That night, Lily fell asleep dreaming of emerald-eyed sphinxes, spinach-powered adventures, and zombie gardeners who loved their plants so much that magic kept them walking forever, protecting the wonders of the Enchanted Garden.
