The Pyramid's Secret Friend

Lily loved climbing the old wooden pyramid in the park. Every Saturday, she'd spend hours running up and down its levels, pretending she was an explorer discovering ancient treasures. But one cloudy afternoon, she noticed something strange.

A thick orange cable snaked across the grass, disappearing behind the pyramid. Curious, Lily followed it. Behind the playground structure sat a boy she'd never seen before. He wore bright orange sneakers and was carefully connecting wires to what looked like a small robot.

"It's not a zombie," the boy said softly, noticing Lily's stare. His robot was painted green with messy stitches drawn on its face. "Everyone calls him that, but he's really just lonely."

Lily stepped closer. The robot's eyes flickered to life, glowing soft blue. "I'm Zed," the boy explained. "And this is Ziggy. I built him from broken things people threw away."

"Why the stitches?" Lily asked.

"So kids wouldn't be scared. They think zombies are monsters." Zed looked down. "I wanted him to look like the friendly ones from cartoons."

Lily watched Ziggy's mechanical hand wave at her. Something magical happened—she understood. Sometimes things that seem scary are just misunderstood.

"Can I help?" she asked.

Zed's face lit up like sunshine. Together, they spent the afternoon decorating Ziggy with flowers and ribbons until he looked like a garden come to life. When other children gathered to watch, Lily told them Ziggy's story—that he was a friend made from lost things, finding new purpose.

By sunset, five kids sat around the pyramid, each taking turns making Ziggy dance and beep. The orange cable pulsed with energy, connecting not just a robot to power, but lonely hearts to friendship.

That night, Lily learned the most wonderful secret: the scariest monsters are often just the loneliest friends, waiting for someone brave enough to say hello.
