The Pyramid's Secret Friend

Lily loved Saturday mornings. That's when she and her golden retriever, Buster, explored the woods behind their house. This Saturday felt different—the air sparkled with magic.

They were playing padel against an old stone wall when Lily hit the ball especially hard. It sailed through a patch of bushes and disappeared. Buster dashed after it, barking excitedly.

"Buster, wait!" Lily called, pushing through the prickly branches.

She gasped. Hidden in the clearing stood a miniature pyramid, covered in glowing symbols. It hummed with ancient energy. Buster sniffed it curiously.

Suddenly, the pyramid's front panel slid open. A green figure shuffled out—slowly, groaning softly.

Lily gasped again. "A zombie!"

But this zombie wasn't scary like in movies. He wore a tuxedo that was way too big, and his face looked more confused than frightening.

"Hello?" Lily whispered. The zombie jumped, then waved shyly. "I'm Zed," he said softly. "I've been guarding the Knowledge Pyramid for three hundred years."

"You're a zombie?"

"Technically, yes. But I prefer 'eternally curious scholar.'" Zed adjusted his crooked bowtie. "Would you like to see what's inside?"

Lily and Buster followed him into the pyramid. Instead of treasure, the walls were filled with books, games, and paintings.

"The pyramid holds everything wonderful in the world," Zed explained. "But I'm lonely. Nobody visits because they think I'm scary."

Lily thought for a moment. "That's not fair. Everyone deserves friends."

"Exactly!" Zed's eyes lit up. "Would you... maybe want to play padel with me? I've watched people play through my pyramid's windows for centuries."

So they played—Lily, Buster, and Zed—in the magical clearing. Zed was terrible at padel, but he laughed harder than anyone ever had. His awkward movements became graceful when he was having fun.

As the sun set, Zet handed Lily a small glowing pyramid charm. "So you can always find your way back."

"I'll come every Saturday," Lily promised. "Being different makes you special, not scary."

Buster barked in agreement. Zed smiled—a real, genuine smile. For the first time in three hundred years, the pyramid's guardian wasn't lonely anymore.

Sometimes the best adventures happen when you're brave enough to look past appearances—and make friends in the most unexpected places.
