The Pyramid Pitch
Lily stared at her goldfish, Finny, swimming circles in his bowl. She'd built a card pyramid beside him, stacking her baseball cards carefully until they reached her lamp.
'I wish something magical would happen,' Lily sighed, resting her chin on her hands. 'Something more exciting than homework.'
The pyramid began to glow. Soft golden light swirled around the baseball cards, and Finny's bowl shimmered like morning sunlight. Suddenly, Finny wasn't just a goldfish anymore—he grew fins that sparkled like diamonds, and his scales shimmered with rainbow colors.
'Lily!' Finny spoke, his voice like bubbles in a stream. 'I've been waiting for you to wish! Take my fin.'
She reached through the magic glow, and together they swirled up, up, up through the ceiling, past the stars, into a land of golden sands and towering pyramids.
'Welcome to the Pyramid Baseball League!' Finny chirped.
Pharaohs with crook-shaped bats and queens with dazzling crowns filled the stands. But the players—they were magical sea creatures! A dolphin pitcher wound up and threw a ball that shimmered like pearls.
'Lily, you're up!' Finny nudged her forward.
She gripped the bat (which felt light as a feather) and watched as a starfish pitcher threw something that glowed. Crack! Lily hit the ball straight toward the great pyramid's peak. A flying fish caught it just before it touched the golden stones.
'Home run!' the crowd cheered, throwing confetti that turned into butterflies.
Lily laughed until her sides hurt. She'd never felt so alive, so free, so wonderfully part of something magical.
When Finny said it was time to go, Lily hugged him tight. 'Can we come back?'
'Every night,' Finny promised. 'As long as you keep building pyramids and believing in magic.'
They returned to her room, everything exactly as she'd left it. But now, whenever Lily looked at her baseball cards or watched Finny swim, she knew the truth: the best adventures aren't the ones you find—they're the ones you create, with a little imagination and a friend who believes in magic too.
