The Pyramid of Wishing Waters

Lila had the most extraordinary hair in her entire class. It wasn't just curly—it was magically curly, bouncing like tiny springs with every step she took. Her friends said her hair had a personality of its own, and Lila secretly agreed.

One summer afternoon, while swimming in the old quarry pond behind her house, Lila noticed something shimmering beneath the water. Her hair seemed to pull her toward it, as if it knew secrets she didn't.

She dove deeper than she'd ever dared before, her curly locks streaming behind her like golden seaweed. And there, resting on a bed of smooth stones, was a miniature pyramid no bigger than her lunchbox. It glowed with a soft blue light.

When Lila's fingers brushed the pyramid's smooth surface, the water around her began to sparkle. Suddenly, she could breathe underwater!

"You found it!" cheered a tiny voice. A mermaid with rainbow-colored scales swam circles around her. "I've been waiting for someone with special hair to find the Pyramid of Wishing Waters."

Lila learned that the pyramid granted one wish each summer to someone whose heart was pure and whose hair was full of joy. The mermaid explained, "Your hair shows how happy you are inside!"

Lila thought carefully. She could wish for anything—new toys, endless ice cream, even the ability to fly. But she remembered how lonely the new girl at school looked, eating lunch alone every day.

"I wish that everyone at school would find a best friend," Lila said.

The pyramid's glow turned warm pink, and suddenly Lila understood that her wish was already coming true—she had made friends with the magical mermaid, and tomorrow, she'd befriend the lonely new girl too.

Swimming back to shore, Lila felt her hair bouncing with extra happiness. Some wishes don't come from magic pyramids at all—they come from kind hearts and the courage to reach out to others.
