The Pyramid of Palm Beach

Max lifted his shaking palm toward the golden pyramid. Behind him, Barnaby the golden retriever whined, sensing his friend's nervousness.

"It's okay, boy," Max whispered, scratching behind the dog's velvet ears. "The legend says the Pyramid of Wonders grants one wish to those who are brave enough to climb it."

The pyramid wasn't made of stone like the ones in books. It was made of crystallized sunlight, glowing softly on the mysterious island that appeared only at dawn. Max had discovered it while walking Barnaby on the beach yesterday morning, when the sea fog had parted to reveal the shimmering structure rising from the sand.

Now they stood at its base, where ancient steps spiraled upward into the clouds.

"What if we fall?" Max said aloud, though he knew Barnaby couldn't answer.

The dog barked once, confidently, and placed one paw on the first step. Then he looked back at Max with eyes full of determination.

Max giggled. "You're right, Barnaby. Friendship means facing fears together."

Hand in paw, they began climbing. Each step glowed beneath their feet, and Max felt lighter with every one they conquered. The island stretched below them—a circle of turquoise water around a beach dotted with palm trees swaying in the morning breeze.

At the pyramid's peak, they found a small chamber. In its center sat a single crystal bottle filled with liquid rainbow.

"The Vitamin of Courage," Max breathed, remembering his grandmother's stories about magical elixirs. "Just one sip gives you the power to believe in yourself."

He shared it with Barnaby, and suddenly Max understood—the pyramid's magic wasn't in the bottle. The magic had been in the climb itself, in trusting his heart and his faithful friend.

They watched the sunrise paint the sky pink and gold. Max made his wish silently: *I wish to always be this brave.*

The pyramid flashed once, then dissolved into sparkles that drifted down to the beach like confetti. When Max and Barnaby reached the sand again, the island was fading. But in Max's pocket glowed a small crystal pyramid—a reminder that the greatest adventures begin with a single brave step.

Barnaby barked at the horizon, ready for tomorrow's mystery. Max smiled, patting his palm against the dog's head. Some magic, he realized, you carry with you always.
