The Pyramid of Golden Dreams

Barnaby was a small, scruffy dog with one ear that flopped down and one that stood straight up. He lived with Lily, his best friend in the whole world, in a house with a big backyard full of dandelions and secret hiding spots.

One summer afternoon, while digging for what Barnaby hoped was a buried bone, his paws hit something hard. Not a rock. Not a root. Something smooth and warm.

"Lily! Lily! Come quick!" Barnaby barked, though only Lily seemed to understand his special language.

She came running, her red curls bouncing. Together they dug until they uncovered something amazing—a miniature pyramid no bigger than a shoebox, glowing with soft golden light.

"It's beautiful," Lily whispered, carefully brushing dirt from its smooth sides.

The pyramid hummed, and suddenly tiny hieroglyphics appeared, glowing brighter and brighter. Then, in a sparkle of magic, the pyramid grew taller than their house!

Inside was a whole world—skies of purple and green, friendly stars that twinkled hello, and pyramids made of crystal and marshmallow. Most wonderful of all, every child who had ever felt lonely was there, playing together with magical dogs who could fly.

"This is where lonely friends find each other," the pyramid seemed to say without speaking.

Barnaby and Lily played until sunset, flying on starlight and sliding down marshmallow slides. But as the sky turned dark, the pyramid began to fade.

"Wait!" Lily cried. "Don't go!"

The pyramid's voice echoed in their hearts. "We're always here. Whenever you feel lonely, or someone needs a friend, just remember—pyramids of golden dreams exist in the spaces between hearts."
