The Pyramid of Courage

Lily knelt in her grandmother's garden, her fingers brushing against something glimmering beneath the rosemary bush. It was a tiny crystal pyramid, no bigger than her thumb, sparkling with colors that shifted like rainbows in soap bubbles.

"What are you?" she whispered, turning it in her palm.

The pyramid warmed against her skin. Suddenly, a beam of golden light shot upward, forming floating letters in the air: THE VITAMIN OF BRAVERY.

Lily gasped. Her grandmother had told her about vitamins — little things that keep you strong and healthy. But a bravery vitamin?

From behind the garden fence, she heard soft sniffling. It was Leo, her new friend from down the street, crying behind the oak tree. Leo had moved here last month and still hadn't made any friends at school. Tomorrow was the class talent show, and Leo had been practicing his magic tricks every day, but he was too scared to perform.

Lily clutched the glowing pyramid. The golden light formed new words: TRUE FRIENDS SHARE THEIR STRENGTH.

Her heart thumped. She wanted to keep the magic pyramid for herself — imagine never being afraid of anything ever again! But then she thought about Leo's sad smile, how he always shared his lunch snacks with her, how he helped her find her lost puppy last week.

Lily stood up and marched toward the fence. "Leo?" she called out. "Want to learn a magic trick?"

Leo peeked around the tree, wiping his eyes. "I can't do tricks right. I mess up."

"Not this one." Lily held up the pyramid. It blazed brighter than ever. "This is the Friendship Pyramid. It works best when two people hold it together."

They sat cross-legged in the grass, both touching the crystal. A warm tingle spread through Lily's fingers.

"Tomorrow," she said, "I'll stand in the audience and hold this. Every time you look at me, you'll remember: you're not alone."

Leo smiled — a real smile this time. "Will you come on stage with me? We can do the trick together."

The pyramid's colors swirled, forming one last message: THE BRAVEST THING IS HAVING A FRIEND BY YOUR SIDE.

And as the sun set, two children practiced magic tricks in a garden, glowing with something more powerful than any spell: the courage found in friendship.
