The Pyramid of Brave Bites
Leo never liked spinach. Not even when his mom called it 'little trees.' But everything changed on the night he found the glowing pyramid.
It was small—no bigger than a soup bowl—and hidden beneath his bed. When Leo touched it, the pyramid hummed like a sleepy cat and suddenly grew until it filled his entire room.
A door appeared in its side. Inside sat a zombie, but not the scary kind from movies. This zombie wore a patchy sweater and round glasses, and he looked remarkably sad.
'I'm Zed,' the zombie said, his voice crackly like autumn leaves. 'I've been trapped in this pyramid for three hundred years because I was too scared to try new things.'
Leo's eyes widened. 'What do you mean?'
Zed held up a single leaf of vibrant green spinach. 'The Magic Pyramid gives each person one chance to break free. But you must eat something you've never tried before. Something that makes you brave.' He sighed. 'I couldn't do it. I was too afraid.'
Leo looked at the spinach. It shimmered with tiny stars. 'You mean... if I eat this, you'll be free?'
'And you'll discover something amazing,' Zed added. 'But only if you're truly brave.'
Leo thought about all the times he'd said 'no' without trying. He thought about Zed waiting three centuries for someone courageous enough. He picked up the magical spinach leaf. It smelled like sunshine and adventure.
'I'm brave,' Leo whispered, and ate the whole leaf.
It tasted wonderful—like fresh rain and happy surprises. Suddenly, he felt lighter than air. The pyramid dissolved into golden butterflies, and Zed transformed into a wise old gardener.
'Thank you, Leo,' Zed smiled. 'You taught me that bravery isn't about not being scared. It's about trying anyway.' He pressed a packet of spinach seeds into Leo's hand. 'Plant these. They'll grow whatever vegetables you're brave enough to try.'
The next morning, Leo asked his mom for spinach at dinner. And you know what? It was delicious.
