The Pyramid in the Pool
Lily's favorite spot was her backyard pool. Every summer day, she'd swim until her fingers turned wrinkly, dreaming of underwater kingdoms and treasure. But this summer would be different. This summer, she'd make the most magical discovery of her life.
It started on a Tuesday morning. Lily's new friend, Marcus, had come over to swim. Marcus was quiet and loved reading about ancient places. He carried his little blue pyramid everywhere—a paperweight his grandmother had given him from Egypt.
"Did you know," Marcus said, holding up his pyramid, "that ancient Egyptians believed pyramids could connect different worlds?"
Lily giggled. "That's just a story!"
But then it happened. Marcus reached for his towel, and the pyramid slipped from his fingers. Splash! It sank to the bottom of the pool, disappearing into the sparkling blue water.
Both children stared at the ripples. Then, something impossible occurred. The water began to glow—not just shine, but glow with golden light, as if a tiny sun had lit up underwater.
"Look!" Marcus whispered.
The pyramid wasn't just at the bottom of the pool anymore. It had grown. A magnificent pyramid now stood in the center, its sides shimmering with hieroglyphs that sparkled like stars.
Lily and Marcus held hands and stepped closer. The pool wasn't water anymore—it was a portal of swirling light and color.
"What do we do?" Lily asked, her heart beating fast.
"Together," Marcus said. "We go together."
They jumped into the glowing pool and found themselves in a magical world beneath the water. Fish made of crystal swam through rivers of starlight. Trees grew upside down from the sky, dropping fruits that tasted like sunshine and dreams.
A voice echoed all around them: "True friends who share wonder will always find magic."
For hours, they explored—until suddenly, they were back in Lily's backyard, dripping wet, the little paperweight pyramid resting innocently on the pool's edge.
Marcus picked it up, grinning. "Did that really happen?"
Lily squeezed his hand. "It did if we believe it did."
And every summer after that, whenever they swam together, the pool would shimmer just a little bit golden—as if remembering the day two friends discovered that magic is real, as long as you have someone to share it with.
