The Pyramid in the Pool
Lily loved summer days at her grandmother's house. The old backyard swimming pool sparkled like blue diamonds under the sun. Lily's curly brown hair bounced as she ran outside, her favorite baseball glove tucked under her arm.
"Grandma!" she called. "Can I practice my pitching?"
Her grandmother smiled from the porch. "Of course, sweet pea. But be careful — the water looks especially magical today."
Lily didn't understand what she meant. The pool looked normal... until she threw her baseball. Instead of hitting the fence, something strange happened. The ball dropped into the water with a soft *plop*, and suddenly the water began to glow.
Ripples turned into golden light. The water swirled upward, forming shapes that sparkled like stars. Lily gasped as the glow grew brighter and brighter, and suddenly — WHOOSH! — a magnificent golden pyramid rose from the center of the pool.
The pyramid wasn't just gold. It was made of sunlight and dreams, with steps leading right up to the top.
"Who's there?" a voice called. Lily's friend Jake popped his head over the back fence. He was supposed to be swimming at his own house, but he'd heard the magical sound.
"Jake! Look!" Lily pointed.
His eyes went wide. "That's... that's amazing!"
Without thinking, they both jumped into the pool. But they didn't get wet. The water lifted them gently, carrying them to the pyramid's base. Together, they climbed the golden steps.
At the top, they found something unexpected: a tiny baseball field, perfect for two kids. But this was no ordinary game. Every time they threw the ball, it created bursts of colorful butterflies that filled the air.
"This is magic!" Jake laughed, his hair messy from swimming.
They played for what felt like minutes but might have been hours. The pyramid taught them something important — that the best games aren't about winning. They're about wonder, about friendship, about finding magic in unexpected places.
As the sun began to set, the pyramid sank back into the water with a gentle splash. The pool looked ordinary again.
"Did that really happen?" Jake asked.
Lily smiled, holding her baseball tightly. "Some magic stays with us forever, whether we can see it or not."
That summer, every time they went swimming, they remembered the golden pyramid. And somehow, ordinary baseball games became a little more magical too.
