The Pyramid in the Pool

Lily loved summer evenings, especially when the sky turned purple and pink. She was floating in her swimming pool, watching the stars blink on one by one, when something caught her eye.

A glimmer at the bottom of the pool. Something golden.

She dove down, her fingers brushing against something smooth and metallic. She surfaced, gasping for air, clutching an old iPhone. But this wasn't any ordinary phone — its screen glowed with swirling colors, like a tiny galaxy trapped in glass.

"Curious," whispered a voice.

Lily jumped. A girl about her age sat on the pool deck, appearing out of nowhere. She had silvery hair that floated as if underwater, even though she was perfectly dry.

"I'm Marina," the girl said. "That phone belongs to my world."

"Your world?" Lily asked, dripping wet.

Marina pointed at the pool. "Look again."

Lily looked. The water had turned crystal clear, and there beneath the surface sat a magnificent golden pyramid, glowing softly from within. Tiny fish with rainbow scales swam around it, and bubbles rose like pearls.

"The iPhone is a key," Marina explained. "It opens doors between worlds. You found ours!"

"Can I visit?" Lily asked, her heart racing.

Marina smiled. "Only if you promise to be a friend. Magic always requires friendship."

Lily nodded vigorously.

Together, they dove into the water. But instead of getting wet, Lily felt warm and light. The pyramid opened like a flower blooming, revealing rooms filled with singing seashells and dancing coral. In the center, a chamber where wishes floated like glowing jellyfish.

"Choose one," Marina said. "But choose wisely."

Lily saw wishes for treasure, for flying, for infinite candy. But one wish shimmered differently — a simple blue bubble that said: To always have friends who help you grow.

"That one," Lily said.

The bubble popped into a thousand sparkles, showering her with warmth. When she surfaced back in her own pool, the iPhone was gone, but in her pocket, she found a small shell that hummed with Marina's laugh.

Every evening now, Lily swims at sunset. Sometimes she sees the golden pyramid shimmer beneath the water, and sometimes, just sometimes, Marina waves from inside, reminding her that the best magic is the kind you share with friends.
