The Pyramid in the Pool

Lily always tried to tame her wild, curly hair, but it had a mind of its own. Every morning, her brown curls sprang in every direction, like tiny springs refusing to be flattened.

One summer afternoon, Lily swam in her backyard pool, splashing and diving beneath the cool blue water. When she surfaced, gasping for breath, something caught her eye. A tiny golden pyramid, no bigger than her thumb, floated on the water's surface, spinning slowly as if dancing to an invisible song.

"How strange!" Lily whispered, reaching for it.

The moment her fingers touched the pyramid, it grew larger and larger until it became a magnificent golden structure as tall as her house, rising from the water's center. Inside its transparent walls swirled galaxies of purple and silver stars.

Suddenly, a small door opened, and out tumbled the most unusual bear Lily had ever seen. He was only the size of a kitten, with fur the color of honeycombs and eyes like polished emeralds. His wild hair stuck up in all directions—just like Lily's!

"Hello!" chirped the bear. "I'm Barnaby, guardian of the Wishing Pyramid! And you must be someone who understands the magic of untamed hair."

Lily giggled. "It's nice to meet you, Barnaby. But how did you get here?"

"The pyramid appears when someone needs a friend," Barnaby explained, diving into a perfect splash. "I've waited inside for seven hundred years, just for someone with hair as wonderfully wild as mine to find me."

They spent the afternoon playing in the pool—Barnaby teaching Lily to float like a starfish, Lily teaching him to dive like a champion. The pyramid's golden walls glowed warmer with each laugh they shared.

As sunset painted the sky pink and orange, Barnaby grew serious. "Lily, will you make a wish? The pyramid grants one to those with pure hearts."

Lily thought carefully. She could wish for perfect, smooth hair. She could wish for endless summer. But looking at her new friend with his messy fur and kind eyes, she knew what truly mattered.

"I wish we could be friends forever," she said softly, "and that my hair stays wild and free forever—just like Barnaby's."

The pyramid flared with brilliant light. When it faded, Barnaby remained in the pool, now small enough to fit in Lily's pocket.

"Granted," Barnaby beamed. "And now you carry a piece of magic everywhere you go."

That night, Lily brushed her teeth and smiled at her reflection. Her curly hair still stuck out in every direction, but now she saw it differently. It wasn't messy. It was magical—just like her, just like Barnaby, and just like true friendship, which is the most beautiful magic of all.
