The Pyramid in the Backyard
One sunny Saturday, seven-year-old Maya found something strange behind the old oak tree. It was a tiny golden pyramid, no bigger than her baseball, glowing with an inner light. Maya's curly hair bounced as she jumped back in surprise.
"Who's there?" called her best friend, Toby, running over. His messy hair stuck up like he'd just woken up.
"Look!" Maya whispered. The pyramid pulsed warmly in her palm. Suddenly, it grew!
WHOOSH! The pyramid expanded until it towered over them, shimmering with rainbow colors. A door appeared.
"Should we..." Toby started.
"Go in!" Maya finished, and together they stepped inside.
Inside was more magical than anything they'd imagined. Floating baseballs zoomed around like busy bees. Each ball glowed differently—red for courage, blue for kindness, green for curiosity.
"Welcome!" said a kind voice. An elderly woman with silver hair twisted in a long braid stepped forward. She wore a robe covered in tiny baseballs. "I'm Guardian Opal. This is the Pyramid of Play."
"Pyramid of Play?" Toby asked, watching a glowing baseball zoom past his ear.
"Yes! Long ago, children stopped playing outside. They forgot how wonderful running and jumping feels. So I built this magical pyramid to remind them." Opal smiled. "But my magic grows weak. Children need vitamin D from sunshine, and vitamin joy from friendship, to keep the world bright."
Maya understood. "Kids stay inside too much now."
"Exactly!" Opal nodded. "Will you help me?"
The pyramid began to fade.
"What do we do?" Maya asked.
"Play!" Opal cried. "Show the world the magic of play!"
Maya grabbed a glowing red baseball. Toby caught a blue one. Together, they ran outside and began to play—throwing, catching, laughing. With every toss, the pyramid glowed brighter.
Neighborhood children appeared, drawn by the joy. Soon, dozens of kids were playing baseball, soccer, tag. The pyramid shone brilliantly.
"You did it!" Opal called as the pyramid transformed into millions of sparkles that rained down like confetti. "Remember—play is the best vitamin of all!"
As the sparkles faded, Maya and Toby high-fived. Their hair was messy, their knees grassy, but their hearts were full.
"Same time tomorrow?" Toby asked.
"You bet!" Maya grinned.
And every day after, the neighborhood children played together, remembering the magic they'd found inside a tiny golden pyramid.
