The Pyramid in Left Field
Emma loved baseball more than anything. Every Saturday, she'd grab her glove and run to the park, her brown ponytail bouncing behind her.
One sunny afternoon, Emma hit her favorite baseball soaring into the sky. It kept going and going until it disappeared behind the old oak tree in left field. When she ran to find it, she gasped.
A golden pyramid stood where her ball had landed. It shimmered like sunshine, and strange hieroglyphics glowed along its sides.
"Hello?" Emma called, stepping closer.
The pyramid's side slid open like a door. Inside sat a tiny girl with bright purple hair, surrounded by floating water bubbles.
"I've been waiting for someone brave enough to find my pyramid," the girl said. "I'm Cleo, guardian of the Magic Garden."
Emma's eyes widened. "Magic Garden?"
"Yes!" Cleo waved her hand, and images appeared in the water bubbles. "This garden grows the most powerful food in the universe." She held up a handful of dark green leaves. "This is magic spinach."
Emma wrinkled her nose. "Spinach is yucky."
"Not this spinach!" Cleo giggled. "One bite gives you special powers. It helped me grow this purple hair!" She pointed to her shimmering strands. "And look what it did for my cat!"
A cat with rainbow-striped fur trotted into view, meowing happily.
Emma hesitated, then tried a leaf. Suddenly, she felt energy zing through her body. Her hair began to sparkle, changing colors like a sunset—pink, blue, gold!
"Your baseball," Cleo said, handing it back. "But now it's magical. When you hit it, it will always come back to you."
Emma noticed something else. She felt stronger, faster, braver.
"The magic helps you believe in yourself," Cleo whispered. "You always had these powers. The spinach just helps you see them."
Emma hugged her new friend. "Can I visit again?"
"Every Saturday," Cleo promised. "Bring your friends, bring your family. The magic garden is for everyone who's brave enough to try new things."
That afternoon, Emma hit the most amazing home run of her life. And that night, she asked her mom for spinach at dinner.
Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is try something new—even if it's green and leafy.
