The Pool That Held Lightning
Lily was seven years old, and she loved storms. When thunder rumbled like a giant's tummy and rain tapped on her window like tiny fingers, she felt magical things were about to happen.
One evening, as lightning flashed across the sky, Lily noticed something strange in her backyard. Where there had been only grass before, now there was a small, shimmering pool. The water glowed with a soft blue light that pulsed like a heartbeat.
Lily crept outside in her yellow rainboots. As she leaned over the pool, she saw something amazing—reflections of worlds she had never seen. Castles made of clouds, forests with rainbow trees, and oceans full of singing fish.
Suddenly, a bolt of lightning struck nearby, and for one second, the pool showed something different. A tiny girl was trapped inside the reflection, reaching out as if asking for help.
"Hello?" Lily called. "Can you hear me?"
The water rippled, and the tiny girl spoke, her voice like wind chimes. "I'm Nova, from the Lightning Kingdom. Our sky has gone dark, and we've forgotten how to shine. Only someone from your world can bring back our light."
Lily didn't hesitate. "What do I need to do?"
"Touch the water and think of the bravest thing you've ever done," Nova said. "Your courage will become our light."
Lily closed her eyes and remembered the time she had rescued a kitten from a tall tree, even though she had been scared of heights. She touched the pool with both hands.
WHOOSH!
The water began to sparkle, and tiny lights shot up into the sky like fireworks. In the distance, real lightning began to flash again, brighter and more beautiful than before.
"Thank you, Lily!" Nova called, her reflection dancing with joy. "You saved us!"
The glowing pool slowly faded, leaving behind only a single lightning-shaped stone that sparkled with inner light. Lily picked it up—it felt warm, like a tiny piece of friendship in her pocket.
From that day on, whenever Lily saw lightning, she smiled. She knew that somewhere, far away, Nova and her kingdom were shining bright, all because a seven-year-old girl had been brave enough to help.
And sometimes, when storms came, Lily would hold her lightning stone and whisper to the sky, knowing that true friendship can light up even the darkest night.
The magic had taught her something important: even the smallest person can make the biggest difference, just by being brave and kind.
