The Pool's Secret Friend

Leo loved swimming more than anything. Every summer day, he'd dive into the blue pool behind his house, splashing and laughing until the sun went down. But this summer felt different.

One afternoon, while doing cannonballs, Leo noticed something strange. Green bubbles rose from the deep end. Something was down there!

He held his breath and dove underwater. There, sitting sadly on the pool bottom, was a zombie. But not a scary one—this zombie had rainbow-colored hair and wore polka-dot swimming trunks.

Leo popped up, gasping. "A zombie! In my pool!"

The zombie surfaced slowly. "I'm not scary," he said in a bubbly voice. "I'm Zed. I just wanted to learn to swim."

Leo noticed Zed's arms were made of pool noodles. "You're not a real zombie!"

"I'm a pool zombie," Zed explained. "Magical pool toys brought to life by children's imagination. But I'm lonely. No one wants to play with a zombie."

"I will!" Leo said. "But first, you need to learn swimming properly."

They practiced every day. Zed learned to float, kick, and even do a somersault underwater. Other kids came to watch, and soon Zed was teaching everyone his funny water dances.

Then came the day of the town fair. Everyone was excited except for Farmer Brown. His prize bull, Buttercup, had escaped and was headed straight for the pool!

"She can't swim!" the farmer cried.

The huge bull stomped toward the water, looking scared. Children screamed and ran. But Zed didn't run.

"Everyone's afraid of something," Zed said softly. "Even bulls."

The zombie waded toward Buttercup. The bull froze. Zed began doing his silly water dance, splashing gently. Slowly, Buttercup stepped closer. She sniffed Zed's polka-dot trunks and let out a happy snort.

"She thinks you're funny!" Leo laughed.

Zed guided Buttercup to the shallow end where she could stand. The bull splashed happily, cooling off on the hot day.

"That zombie saved my bull!" Farmer Brown cheered.

From then on, Zed wasn't lonely anymore. Children, farmers, and even bulls wanted to swim with the friendly pool zombie. Leo learned that scary things aren't always what they seem—and sometimes the best friends are the ones you least expect.

That summer, the pool wasn't just a place for swimming. It was a place where everyone belonged, even rainbow-haired zombies and swimming bulls.
