The Pool Party Magic
Lily pressed her lucky red hat against her chest and peeked through the fence. Her neighbors were having a pool party, but she was too shy to join. Suddenly, something green and wobbly caught her eye—a zombie! But this wasn't a scary zombie like in movies. He was small, round, and looked completely lost.
The zombie wobbled toward the pool, tripping over his own feet. Lily's dog, Barnaby, a golden retriever with a heart bigger than his bark, trotted over and gently nudged the creature.
"Don't be scared," Lily whispered, stepping through the gate. "I'm Lily, and this is Barnaby. What's your name?"
The zombie looked up with sad, sparkly eyes. "Zim. I just wanted to make friends, but everyone runs away when they see me."
Lily's heart melted. She placed her red hat on Zim's head. It was too big and slid over his eyes, making them all giggle. "Perfect! Now you're part of our team."
Zim's green face brightened. "Really?"
"Really!" Lily said. "Want to learn to swim?"
At the pool's edge, Zim trembled. "What if I sink? I'm already pretty heavy."
"We'll help you!" Barnaby barked in agreement.
Lily held Zim's hand while Barnaby splashed encouragingly. Slowly, Zim dipped his foot in the water. Then the other. Soon, they were all floating and laughing. Zim discovered he was actually a wonderful swimmer—he could do backflips!
The other children, who had been watching from afar, slowly approached. "Can we play too?" one girl asked.
Zim looked at Lily, who smiled warmly. "The more friends, the merrier!"
That afternoon, the pool became the most magical place. They played games, shared snacks, and Zim taught everyone how to do underwater somersaults. No one cared that Zim was different—they loved him for his kind heart and amazing swimming skills.
As the sun set, Lily realized something important: courage comes in many forms. Sometimes it's jumping into a pool, and sometimes it's being the first to say hello. The best friends aren't the ones who look the same—they're the ones who make you feel brave enough to be yourself.
"See you tomorrow?" Zim asked, adjusting Lily's hat.
"Every day," Lily promised, and Barnaby barked his agreement.
