The Pool of Wonders
Lily loved the night. While other children slept, she often sat by her window, watching the sky. One stormy evening, she saw something magical—a bolt of lightning that didn't just flash and disappear. It danced.
Curious, Lily slipped outside in her rainboots. The lightning seemed to be calling her toward the backyard pool. As she approached, the water began to glow with a soft blue light. Suddenly, the surface rippled, and a golden pyramid rose from the center, no bigger than a sandcastle.
"Hello, young friend," a voice rumbled gently.
Lily gasped. A tiny sphinx no larger than her cat stood atop the pyramid, its wings shimmering like pearls.
"I'm Cleo," the sphinx said. "My home is trapped between worlds. The lightning opens the doorway, but I need someone brave enough to help me return it."
"What do I do?" Lily asked, her heart racing with excitement.
"Touch the pyramid with both hands and make a wish that comes from your heart."
Lily reached into the glowing water. Her fingers grazed the golden pyramid. She closed her eyes and whispered, "I wish every lost thing could find its way home."
The pool erupted with light—not scary lightning, but warm, golden sparkles that swirled around them like fireflies. When Lily opened her eyes, Cleo was smiling.
"You did it!" the sphinx cheered. "Your wish opened the path home. But you also helped something else—look!"
In the sparkles, Lily saw images: a lost dog finding its owner, a misplaced toy returning to its owner's pocket, a forgotten letter reaching its destination.
"The purest wishes help everyone," Cleo explained as the pyramid began to sink. "Thank you, Lily. You'll always be my friend."
As the sphinx and pyramid faded away, Lily noticed something in her hand—a small golden pyramid charm on a silver chain.
Whenever storms came after that, Lily would watch the lightning dance and remember: magic lives in kindness, and the best adventures are the ones we share with friends.
