The Pool of Wishing Water

Lily discovered the magic behind her grandmother's old house on a hot summer afternoon. Hidden among tall weeds was a small pool, its water sparkling like liquid diamonds.

Inside swam a single goldfish with scales that shimmered between orange and silver. Unlike regular fish, this one had enormous eyes that seemed to hold centuries of secrets.

"Hello," Lily whispered, kneeling beside the pool.

The goldfish swam to the surface and spoke in a voice like gentle raindrops. "Hello, Lily. I've been waiting for someone with a brave heart."

Lily gasped. "You can talk?"

"I'm Grandfather Fish," the goldfish replied. "This water grants wishes, but only to those who prove themselves worthy. Are you ready for an adventure?"

Lily nodded eagerly.

"Then start running," Grandfather Fish said. "Three times around the pool, and think of your deepest wish."

Lily began running, her feet padding softly on the grass. Once. Twice. Three times. With each lap, the water glowed brighter—blue, then purple, then golden.

When she stopped, the water showed a reflection: herself, standing tall and confident, helping other children.

"Your wish is to be brave?" Grandfather Fish asked.

Lily's shoulders drooped. "I'm always afraid. Afraid of the dark, of loud noises, of failing."

"True bravery isn't having no fear," the goldfish said wisely. "It's being scared but doing what's right anyway. Look at the water."

Lily looked. The reflection changed—showing her as she was now, small and frightened, yet stepping forward to help others despite shaking knees.

"The magic was already inside you," Grandfather Fish said. "Running around the pool only helped you see it. The water doesn't grant wishes—it shows the truth."

Lily touched the water gently. Ripples spread outward, carrying her understanding like tiny waves.

"Thank you," she said.

"Visit anytime," Grandfather Fish said, diving deep. "But remember—the real magic isn't in the pool or the water or even in a talking goldfish. It's in you."

That night, Lily slept with new confidence. She was still afraid sometimes, but now she knew that courage meant moving forward despite fear. And whenever she needed reminding, she would visit the magical pool where a wise goldfish taught her that wishes come true only when you believe in yourself enough to make them happen.
