The Pool of Wishing Stars
Leo loved summer evenings in his backyard, especially when the stars came out. He was sitting by the pool, dipping his toes in the cool water, when he noticed something strange. His iPhone, sitting on the pool deck, began to glow with a soft blue light.
Curious, Leo reached for it. The screen showed ripples, like water was flowing inside it. Then, through the ripples, he saw a face peering back—a friendly bear with twinkling eyes!
"Hello, Leo!" the bear said, his voice warm like honey. "I'm Barnaby, and I need your help."
Barnaby explained that he was a star-bear from the constellation Ursa Major, and he'd dropped his lucky baseball into the Pool of Wishing Stars—a magical portal that connected different worlds. Without it, he couldn't make wishes come true anymore.
"I can help!" Leo said, his heart racing with excitement.
Barnaby taught Leo a special rhyme: "Water bright and stars so near, take me where wishes appear."
Leo whispered the words, and suddenly the backyard pool began to shimmer. The water turned into liquid starlight, swirling with silver and gold. When Leo looked into its depths, he saw a whole universe—a galaxy of swimming pools floating in space, each one connected by streams of glowing water.
"Jump in!" Barnaby called. "But remember—you must find the baseball and return before the morning star rises."
Leo took a deep breath and leaped into the magical pool. Instead of sinking, he floated through starlight, past constellations that winked at him like old friends. Finally, he spotted it—Barnaby's golden baseball, floating near a cluster of baby stars.
He grabbed it just as the first light of dawn touched the sky. The pool of starlight carried him back, and he landed safely on his own pool deck, dripping with ordinary water again.
"Thank you, Leo!" Barnaby's voice floated from the iPhone screen. "You're brave as a bear and bright as a star. Whenever you make a wish, think of me—and it will come true."
That night, Leo wished for something special: that every child could have a magical friend like Barnaby. As he drifted off to sleep, he saw the Great Bear constellation wink at him through his window, and somewhere among the stars, a golden baseball glowed brighter than all the rest.
