The Pool of Wishing Stars
Lily discovered the secret hidden behind the old palm tree on the hottest day of summer. Its rough bark was etched with symbols that sparkled like tiny stars when she traced them with her finger.
"Hello?" she whispered.
To her astonishment, the palm tree's fronds swayed even though there wasn't any wind. A deep, friendly voice rumbled from somewhere within its trunk.
"Hello, young seeker. I've been waiting for someone pure of heart."
Lily gasped. "You can talk?"
"I am the Guardian Palm," the tree said proudly. "Behind me lies the Pool of Wishing Stars, but you must pass one challenge first."
From behind the palm tree emerged the most magnificent creature Lily had ever seen—a bull made entirely of golden light, not flesh and bone. His horns gleamed like polished sunshine, and his eyes held the warmth of a thousand summer days.
"I am Lumos," the golden bull said gently. "Your challenge is simple but brave. You must give up something precious to enter the pool."
Lily thought hard. She reached into her pocket and pulled out her iphone—her most prized possession, with all her games and photos.
"This?" she asked, her hand trembling.
Lumos nodded. "The pool only opens to those willing to sacrifice for the sake of wonder."
Lily's heart beat fast. She loved her phone, but she loved magic more. She took a deep breath and placed it on the palm tree's roots.
"I'm ready," she said, trying to sound braver than she felt.
The ground trembled softly. Behind the palm tree, the air shimmered like heat waves, and suddenly a pool appeared. Its water was crystal clear and filled with tiny lights that twinkled like fallen stars.
"Step in," Lumos encouraged.
Lily dipped one toe, then the other. The water was perfectly warm, like a bubble bath. When she was completely inside, the most amazing thing happened—all her wishes floated to the surface, glowing like golden fish. She saw wishes for flying, for talking to animals, for making every day feel like magic.
The Pool of Wishing Stars showed her that true magic wasn't about having things. It was about courage, kindness, and the wonder of saying yes to adventure even when you're scared.
When she stepped out, dry and warm, her iphone was gone. But in its place sat a small, perfect starstone that pulsed with gentle light.
"What's this?" Lily asked.
"A reminder," Lumos said, "that the best magic lives inside勇敢 hearts. Whenever you need wonder, just hold it and remember."
That night, Lily showed her sister the starstone, and together they made new wishes under real stars. Some sacrifices, she learned, aren't losses at all—they're doorways to something infinitely more beautiful.
