The Pool of Wishing Stars
Lily loved running through the meadow behind her house. Her brown hair flew behind her like a chocolate ribbon as she raced the wind, laughing all the way. But one afternoon, she stumbled upon something she'd never seen before—a shimmering blue pool hidden among the ancient oak trees.
The water wasn't just blue. It sparkled with tiny lights that danced like captured stars. Lily leaned closer, and her reflection showed not her own face, but someone else's—a girl with hair that changed from pink to purple to gold like a living rainbow.
"Hello!" called the girl, stepping right through the water as if it were mist. "I'm Marina. I've been waiting for a friend."
Lily gasped. "You live in the pool?"
"The Pool of Wishing Stars," Marina explained. "Every hundred years, it chooses someone with a pure heart to visit our world. Would you like to see?"
Before Lily could answer, Marina's hair swirled around them both. They were running—but not on grass anymore. They dashed across clouds made of cotton candy, slid down rainbows like they were playground slides, and danced with fireflies that sang tiny songs.
"This is amazing!" Lily cried. "But I don't understand. Why me?"
Marina's hair turned soft pink. "Because yesterday, when you found that baby bird and helped it back into its nest, the pool felt your kindness. Magic always finds kind hearts."
Lily remembered the little bird, how its feathers had been wet and scared. She hadn't thought anyone noticed.
They spent what felt like hours playing in the magical world, racing shooting stars and making wishes on comets. But all too soon, Marina's hair began to fade to silver.
"It's time for you to go home," Marina said sadly. "But don't worry. The pool will always be here, and so will our friendship."
Lily hugged her new friend tight. "Will I ever see you again?"
Marina smiled, her hair shimmering with every color of the rainbow. "Whenever you do something kind, whenever you help someone in need, look in any pool of water. I'll be there, waving back."
And with a final whoosh of rainbow light, Lily was back in the meadow, the setting sun painting the sky gold.
Now, whenever Lily passes any pool or pond, she always looks for her friend. Sometimes she sees a flash of rainbow hair. Other times, she just waves, knowing that kindness creates magic that lasts forever.
