The Pool of Wishing Light
Lily discovered the secret pool on the last day of summer. It wasn't an ordinary swimming pool – this one shimmered with an otherworldly glow, hidden behind her grandmother's overgrown garden. The water sparkled like someone had sprinkled diamonds across its surface.
She'd been trying to take a picture of the sunset with her iPhone when something magical happened. As she held the phone above the water, the screen didn't just show the reflection – it revealed an entire underwater kingdom beneath the surface. Tiny lights danced like stars in the deep blue water.
"Hello!" a voice bubbled up from below.
Lily nearly dropped her phone. A small creature with silver skin and hair made of flowing water rose from the pool. This was a water sprite, no taller than her hand.
"I'm Finn," the sprite said. "And you've found the Pool of Wishing Light. It's been waiting for someone pure of heart to visit for many, many years."
"Why me?" Lily asked, her eyes wide.
"Because you didn't just look – you really saw." Finn gestured to her iPhone. "Your phone didn't just capture an image. It captured the magic inside your heart."
Finn explained that the pool granted one wish to anyone who proved they understood its true power. But there was a catch – the wish couldn't be for yourself.
Lily thought hard. She could wish for anything – endless candy, a pet dragon, or all the toys in the world. But then she thought about her best friend Sam, who had been sad since moving away. She remembered how lonely she felt before they became friends.
"I wish," Lily said softly, "that everyone who feels lonely could find a friend like Sam."
The pool erupted in rainbow lights. Finn smiled with approval. "You've chosen the greatest wish of all. Friendship is the most powerful magic."
Suddenly, the water's image on her iPhone screen changed. She could see glimpses of people all over the world meeting new friends – in parks, in schools, on playgrounds. Her wish was spreading like ripples across a pond.
"Thank you, Lily," Finn said as he began to fade back into the water. "Remember, the best magic doesn't come from wishes – it comes from kindness."
As the pool returned to its normal appearance, Lily noticed something new. The water now reflected not just her face, but the faces of all the friends she had yet to meet. She tucked her iPhone into her pocket, knowing that real magic didn't need a screen – it only needed an open heart.
That night, she texted Sam a photo of the ordinary-looking pool with a simple message: 'This is where I made a wish for everyone to find a friend as wonderful as you.'
And somewhere deep beneath the water, Finn smiled, knowing the Pool of Wishing Light had found exactly the right person to share its secret.
