The Pool of Magical Palms
Luna discovered the secret pool on the hottest day of summer. Hidden behind a wall of swaying palm trees, the water shimmered with a strange blue light that made her gasp.
"What are you doing?" asked her best friend Toby, appearing from behind the trees. His messy hair stuck up in every direction, like it always did when he'd been running.
"Look!" Luna whispered. "This pool... it's magic."
Toby squinted. "It looks like regular old water to me."
"Touch it with your palm," Luna urged. "Like this."
She pressed her hand flat against the surface. The moment her skin touched the water, ripples of silver spread outward. Tiny fish made of starlight swam up and nuzzled her fingers.
"Whoa!" Toby pressed his palm beside hers. More star-fish appeared, dancing between their hands.
"What else can it do?" Toby asked, eyes wide. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his favorite baseball. "What if I...?"
"No!" Luna cried, but it was too late. Toby dropped the baseball into the pool.
Instead of sinking, the baseball began to glow. It spun like a miniature sun, and suddenly—POOF! The water transformed into a field of stars. The baseball became a shooting star streaking across an imaginary sky, leaving trails of rainbow colors.
"Make a wish!" Luna shouted.
They closed their eyes and wished with all their hearts. When they opened them, the pool had returned to normal, but something felt different. Luna's hair now sparkled with tiny lights, and Toby's baseball lay on the grass—still warm from its journey through the stars.
"Do you think our wishes will come true?" Toby asked.
Luna smiled, pressing her palm against the magical water one last time. "They already did. We found something better than wishes. We found magic."
From that day on, the two friends returned often to the pool of magical palms, discovering that the real magic wasn't in the water at all—it was in having a friend who believed in impossible things alongside you.
