The Pool of Magic Light

Lily loved the community pool more than anything. Every summer day, she'd dive into the cool blue water, imagining it was a portal to an underwater kingdom.

One hot afternoon, Lily sat poolside, drying off in the sun. Her mom's old iphone sat on the bench beside her towel. Lily wasn't supposed to play with it, but something made her pick it up.

The screen flickered strangely, showing ripples like water. Then, through the camera lens, she saw something impossible—a greenish face bobbing just below the pool's surface.

"A zombie!" Lily gasped, almost dropping the phone.

But this zombie wasn't like the scary ones in movies. It had kind eyes and seaweed hair that flowed like ribbons. When it surfaced, it wasn't a zombie at all—it was a pool sprite named Zola!

"I'm not scary," Zola said, her voice sounding like bubbles. "I'm magical. I guard this pool's dreams."

Lily's eyes widened. "Dreams?"

"Every splash, every laugh, every wish made while swimming—I keep them safe." Zola smiled, revealing teeth like tiny pearls. "Most people can't see me. Only those with big imaginations."

"I wish I could swim like a fish," Lily whispered.

Zola sprinkled sparkly water over Lily's feet. "Make another wish, and believe it with your whole heart."

Lily closed her eyes and wished for courage. Suddenly, she felt light. That day, she swam her best laps ever.

Each summer after, Lily visited Zola at the pool. She learned that magic exists everywhere, if you're brave enough to look for it. And the iphone? Well, Zola became the star of Lily's photo album—captured through a lens of wonder, friendship, and the kind of magic that only children truly understand.
