The Pool of Dream Baseball
Lily stared at her backyard pool, but it wasn't filled with water anymore. Instead, it shimmered with starlight, even though it was daytime. Inside the pool, hundreds of glowing oranges bobbed and floated like magical rubber balls.
"What's happening?" she whispered, stepping closer.
Suddenly, an orange popped out of the pool and rolled to her feet. But this wasn't any ordinary orange—it had tiny baseball stitches etched into its peel! When Lily picked it up, it felt warm and tingly, like it was alive.
"Throw it!" a small voice squeaked.
Lily looked down to see a turtle wearing a tiny baseball cap. "I'm Slider, the Pool Keeper. These aren't just oranges—they're DREAM BALLS, and you've been chosen to play the most important game ever!"
Slider explained that the magical pool led to the Dream Baseball League, where children's hopes and wishes were scored like runs. Every time someone threw a dream ball and made a good catch, a dream came true somewhere in the world.
Lily's heart raced. She'd always wanted to hit a home run in a real baseball game, but she was too small to make the team. Now she had the chance to play for something much bigger than winning.
"What do I do?" Lily asked.
"Throw that orange baseball into the air and make your wish while it's flying," Slider said. "Then catch it with both hands and believe!"
Lily closed her eyes, wound up her arm, and threw the orange baseball high above the pool. "I wish every kid who feels too small to play big games could find their own way to shine!"
The orange ball glowed golden, expanding until it became a magnificent sun that lit up the entire backyard. Ripples of sparkling light spread across the pool, and hundreds of tiny baseball-shaped lights floated up into the sky, carrying dreams to children everywhere.
Lily caught the orange as it gently floated back down. It wasn't glowing anymore, but when she peeled it open, the inside was shaped like a perfect baseball diamond made of sweet fruit.
"You did it," Slider said, adjusting his cap. "You scored a billion runs today, kid. Every kid who's ever felt too small just got a little bit braver."
That night, Lily fell asleep with a smile, dreaming of a magical pool where oranges became baseballs and anyone—even a small girl with a big heart—could be the hero of the game.
The next morning, her pool was just a pool again. But in the grass beside it, a single orange with tiny baseball stitches grew on a vine that hadn't been there before. Sometimes, magic leaves reminders that the best games are the ones we play together with our hearts.
