The Pond of Dreams
Bear was big and fluffy, with fur the color of autumn leaves. But Bear had a secret. He was afraid of water. Every time he saw a river or lake, his paws would shake.
Then there was Cat. She was tiny, with fur as white as snow and eyes like sparkling emeralds. Cat loved water. She would splash in puddles after rainstorms and drink from the garden hose when no one was looking.
One evening, as the moon rose like a giant silver coin, Cat found Bear sitting alone on a log.
"Bear!" she meowed excitedly. "I found something magical! A pool where the water shows you your dreams!"
Bear shook his head. "I can't, Cat. You know I'm afraid of water."
"But this is special water," Cat purred, rubbing her cheek against his giant paw. "And I'll be right there with you. Friends don't let friends face fears alone."
Bear looked at Cat's hopeful face. He didn't want to disappoint his best friend. "Okay," he whispered. "But just this once."
Together they walked through the whispering forest until they reached a hidden pool. The water was smooth as glass, reflecting the stars above.
"Look in the water," Cat said softly.
Bear peeked over the edge. The water rippled, and suddenly he saw himself not as a scared bear, but as a magnificent creature dancing through rivers, swimming gracefully, strong and brave.
"That's you," Cat said. "That's who you really are inside."
Bear gasped. "I'm not afraid?"
"Not in your dreams," Cat replied. "And dreams can become real if you're brave enough to try."
Bear dipped one paw in the magical water. Then another. Soon he was splashing happily, with Cat leaping playfully beside him.
From that night on, Bear was never afraid of water again. Because he learned that sometimes the scariest things lead to the most wonderful discoveries, and true friends help you see the magic you've had inside all along.
