The Pocket-Sized Sphinx
Lily discovered something magical in her grandmother's attic—a tiny sphinx no bigger than her hand, curled up on an old velvet cushion. The sphinx had soft golden fur, enormous emerald eyes, and small wings that shimmered like morning dew.
"Hello there," Lily whispered.
The sphinx stretched and yawned. "Hello, child. I'm Cleo, and I'm in quite a pickle."
Cleo explained that she was the Guardian of Wonders, but she'd lost her sparkle. Without her magical glow, she couldn't inspire children's imaginations anymore. "I need my lightning vitamins," Cleo said sadly. "They're the special sparkles that jump from clouds during summer storms. But I'm too small to reach the sky!"
Lily's eyes widened with excitement. "I can help! We can catch them together!"
That evening, a thunderstorm rolled in. Lily carried Cleo to the backyard in a basket lined with soft blankets. Thunder rumbled like a giant's belly laugh. Lightning flashed across the dark sky—jagged bolts of brilliant white that made the whole world glow.
"There!" Cleo cried, pointing a tiny paw. "The lightning vitamins!"
Lily held up an empty glass jar just as a particularly bright bolt struck nearby. A cluster of golden sparkles drifted down like glowing fireflies. She caught them just in time!
Celo flew into the jar and rolled around in the sparkles until she glowed brighter than a dozen fireflies. "Wonderful! Thank you, Lily!"
"Wait," Lily said. "Why are they called vitamins?"
"Because they give magical creatures the strength to keep childhood dreams alive!" Cleo explained. "And now, I have something for you too." She touched Lily's forehead with a glowing paw, and suddenly Lily felt bursting with ideas—stories waiting to be written, inventions waiting to be built, adventures waiting to happen.
"Your imagination vitamin," Cleo purred. "Use it well."
And every summer after that, Lily and Cleo would collect lightning vitamins together, keeping magic alive for all the children in the world.
