The Papaya That Held Lightning

Lila lived in a tiny village where the rain danced on tin roofs and the river hummed lullabies. Every morning, she helped her grandmother tend their garden, where orange butterflies kissed the flowers and the morning sun painted everything gold.

One day, Lila discovered something magical in their garden. A single **papaya** fruit glowed with an inner light, pulsing like a tiny heartbeat. When she touched it, sparks danced between her fingers — little flecks of **lightning** trapped inside!

"Grandmother, come see!" Lila called, but the papaya trembled in her hands. It needed something.

The next morning, the village well had gone dry. No **water** flowed from the pump, and the river had slowed to a trickle. Without water, the garden would wither, and the village would fade.

Lila remembered the glowing papaya. "The lightning inside you," she whispered, "maybe it belongs to the sky?"

With the papaya cradled in her arms, Lila climbed the highest hill — the one where clouds brushed against the grass. She held the fruit toward the storm gathering above. Rain began to fall, and the papaya's glow grew brighter and brighter.

*Return what you borrowed,* the wind seemed to say.

Lila closed her eyes and tossed the papaya upward. A brilliant flash of lightning burst from the fruit, shooting straight into the storm clouds! The sky rumbled with gratitude, and rain poured down — sweet, cool water that filled the well and made the river sing again.

Lila's grandmother hugged her tight. "Sometimes, little one, the bravest thing we can do is give back what doesn't belong to us."

That night, Lila fell asleep to the sound of rain, knowing that even the smallest hands can hold the biggest magic.
