The Papaya Sphinx's Secret Pool
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's garden, but today she discovered something extraordinary. Behind a tangle of vines, she found a small golden creature resting on a stone pedestal—a tiny **sphinx** no bigger than a cat, with soft amber fur and wise, sparkling eyes.
"You've found my secret garden," the sphinx said in a voice like gentle wind chimes. "I am Cleo, guardian of the magical fruit."
Lily's eyes widened. "Magical fruit?"
Cleo nodded toward a crystal-clear pool of **water** that shimmered with rainbow colors. "In that pool grows the most special fruit in the world. The **papaya** of courage and the **orange** of joy. But first, you must answer my riddle."
Lily's heart beat fast with excitement. "I'm ready!"
"What shines like liquid sunshine, tastes like summer sunshine, and makes brave hearts stronger?" Cleo purred.
Lily thought hard. She looked at the pool, where round golden fruits bobbed gently in the water. Suddenly, she knew!
"The papaya!" she exclaimed. "Because it's yellow inside like the sun, it's sweet like summer, and eating it makes you brave!"
Cleo's whiskers twitched with happiness. "Correct! But there's one more thing. To reach the fruit, you must go **swimming** in my magical pool."
Lily hesitated. She'd just learned to swim last summer, and deep water still scared her a little. But she wanted to be brave like the papaya promised.
"Will you help me?" she asked Cleo.
"I believe in you," the little sphinx said kindly.
Lily took a deep breath and slipped into the water. It felt warm and hugged her like a blanket. To her surprise, she could float easily! She swam to the center and plucked a golden papaya and a bright orange from their stems.
When she climbed out, Cleo smiled. "You were already brave before you even touched the fruit. True courage isn't about not being scared—it's about trying anyway."
Lily shared the magical fruit with Cleo, and they sat together as the sun set, eating the sweetest papaya and orange anyone had ever tasted. Lily realized that the real magic wasn't in the fruit at all—it was in being brave enough to try something new.
From that day on, Lily visited Cleo often, and every time she faced something scary, she remembered: sometimes the bravest thing you can do is simply take that first splash into the water.
