The Papaya Princess and the Water Dragon
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's garden, especially near the old stone well where something magical always seemed to happen. One sunny morning, she spotted something strange floating in the water at the bottom of the well—a bright orange papaya, glowing as if it contained moonlight.
"Curiouser and curiouser," Lily whispered, leaning closer.
Suddenly, the papaya cracked open like an egg, and out popped a tiny blue dragon no bigger than her thumb, shimmering like sapphires in the sunlight.
"Thank you for freeing me!" the dragon squeaked in a voice like bubbling water. "I'm Splash, the last Water Dragon of the Dream Well. I've been trapped for three hundred years!"
Lily's eyes widened. "A real dragon? In Grandma's well?"
Splash nodded sadly. "The Evil Dryness cursed me. To break free, I need the Golden Vitamin Star from the Crystal Fountain. But the fountain lies deep beneath the ocean, guarded by the Grumpy Crab." He looked up at Lily with hopeful eyes. "Will you help me?"
"Yes!" Lily cried without hesitation. "But how will we breathe underwater?"
Splash grinned and sprinkled magical water from his scales onto her nose. "Now you can breathe anywhere water flows!"
Hand in tiny claw, they dove through the well's water, tumbling through swirling blue currents until they reached the Crystal Fountain. There, on the highest coral branch, shone the Golden Vitamin Star—glowing brighter than a thousand sunsets.
"Not so fast!" snapped the Grumpy Crab, pinching his claws. "Nobody takes the Golden Vitamin Star without answering my riddle: What grows stronger when shared, weaker when kept, and makes hearts glow like the morning sun?"
Lily thought hard, remembering how she felt when sharing adventures with her friends, when helping her grandmother plant flowers.
"Friendship!" she cried out.
The Grumpy Crab smiled, his shell turning from gray to pink. "Correct. The Golden Vitamin Star is yours." He plucked it and placed it gently in Lily's hands. "This vitamin doesn't just strengthen bodies—it strengthens the bonds between friends. Use it wisely."
Splash absorbed the star's light, growing bigger and stronger. "Thank you, Lily! Your heart is braver than any dragon's fire." He pressed a kiss to her cheek, leaving a shimmering water-drop mark that never faded. "Whenever you need me, just whisper to any water, and I'll come."
Lily surfaced from the well, papaya in hand, heart full of magic. That evening, she made the sweetest papaya smoothie for her grandmother—and somehow, it tasted like sunshine and friendship.
