The Papaya Portal's Secret Friend
Luna loved papayas more than anything in the world. Every morning, she would save her pocket money to buy the golden-orange fruit from Mr. Chen's market. But today's papaya was different—it glowed!
When Luna cut it open, the fruit inside shimmered like tiny stars. A voice whispered, "Take me to the ocean."
Luna grabbed her swimming suit and ran to the beach. As she waded into the crystal-clear water, the papaya pieces floated around her like magical bubbles. Suddenly, the water turned rainbow-colored!
"Follow me," a gentle voice echoed.
Luna dove deeper than she ever had before. Her papaya magic let her breathe underwater! She swam through coral castles and seaweed forests until she reached a lonely cave.
There, she saw him—a green creature with tangled hair who looked just like the zombie from her storybooks. But this zombie wasn't scary. He was painting beautiful pictures on the cave walls.
"Everyone calls me Zombie," he said sadly. "But my real name is Zola. I've been alone for three hundred years."
"Why?" Luna asked, fascinated.
Zola pointed to an old sea cable snaking across the ocean floor. "Long ago, this cable connected my island to the mainland. But it broke, and everyone forgot about me. They think I'm a monster because I look different."
Luna's heart hurt. She knew exactly how it felt to be left out.
"You're not a monster," she said firmly. "You're an artist!"
Luna shared her papaya with Zola. As they ate, the magical fruit made his cave glow with warmth and color.
"I'll be your friend," Luna promised. "And I'll tell everyone the truth about you."
Every day that summer, Luna went swimming to visit Zola. She brought other children too, and soon Zola wasn't lonely anymore. The sea cable was forgotten, but something better connected them now—friendship.
Luna learned that magical papayas are wonderful, but kindness is the most powerful magic of all. And sometimes, the scariest-looking creatures just need someone to see who they really are.
