The Papaya Pool's Secret
Lila loved exploring the forest behind her house. One sunny afternoon, she followed a trail of sparkling butterflies deeper than she'd ever gone before. The air smelled sweet, like flowers and sunshine mixed together.
Suddenly, she found it—a hidden pool so clear it looked like liquid glass. The water shimmered with colors that changed like a rainbow dancing. But something was strange. No matter how close Lila got, the pool wouldn't show her reflection.
"Why won't you show me?" Lila whispered.
A tiny voice answered, "The Magic Pool only reveals what's in your heart."
Lila spun around. An old woman with silver hair and eyes like starlight stood beside her. In her wrinkled hands, she held a golden papaya, the biggest Lila had ever seen.
"What should I do?" Lila asked.
"Share," the woman said, placing the papaya in Lila's hands. "The pool's magic wakes up when someone gives without asking for anything back."
Lila looked at the perfect papaya. Her mouth watered. But then she thought of her baby brother, who never got special treats. She thought of her tired mother, who worked so hard.
She broke the papaya into three pieces. One she dropped into the water. Two she tucked into her pocket to share.
Ripples spread across the pool. The water glowed golden. In its depths, Lila saw reflections—not of herself, but of happy moments: her brother's laugh, her mother's smile, the day she'd found a lost kitten and returned it home.
"You see?" the old woman smiled. "The magic was never about seeing yourself. It was about seeing how you make others feel."
Lila ran home with the papaya pieces, her heart full. That night, as she shared with her family, she understood: the pool had shown her the best magic of all—the joy of kindness.
From then on, Lila brought papayas to the hidden pool. But she always saved the biggest pieces to share with those she loved.
