The Papaya Pool Party
Lila loved summer days at Grandma's house. The best part was the swimming pool behind the big palm tree that swayed in the warm breeze. But today, something magical was happening.
Grandma had just picked a ripe papaya from the garden tree. "This one's special," she said with a twinkle in her eye. "It's a friendship papaya."
Lila didn't know what that meant, but she was excited to try the sweet orange fruit. She sat by the pool, munching on her papaya, when her iPhone slipped from her pocket and fell right into the water with a splash!
"Oh no!" Lila cried. She reached in, but the water began to glow with sparkly blue light. Suddenly, something rose from the pool—not a scary monster, but a friendly creature with green skin and flower petals in its hair.
"Hello!" said the creature. "I'm Zara. I'm a pool zombie, but not the scary kind. I'm the magical kind who watches over happy swimming pools!"
Lila's eyes grew wide. "A magical zombie?"
Zara nodded. "Yes! I was sleeping for 100 years until your papaya woke me up. Friendship papayas have magic power. Would you like to be friends?"
Lila smiled. "I'd love that! But I lost my iPhone in your pool."
Zara giggled and waved her hand. The water sparkled again, and Lila's phone floated up, dry as a bone. The pool zombie had magical powers!
"Will you come back tomorrow?" Zara asked. "I get lonely swimming here by myself."
"Every day!" Lila promised. "And I'll bring more papayas for my new best friend."
That summer, Lila learned that magic exists in unexpected places, and that friendship can bloom anywhere—even between a girl and a pool zombie. She never judged anyone by their appearance again, because the best friends sometimes come in the most surprising packages.
