The Papaya Pitcher

Timmy's favorite baseball rolled down the grassy hill and disappeared. He ran after it, sliding through the warm afternoon grass, until he reached the old stone fence by Miller's farm.

There sat the biggest bull Timmy had ever seen. But this wasn't scary — the bull had the gentlest brown eyes, and he was holding Timmy's baseball between his hooves like it was something precious.

"You throw like my grandson," the bull said. Timmy gasped. He didn't know bulls could talk!

"I'm Barnaby," the bull continued, nudging the baseball back. "I've watched your games from this hill for fifty years. But nobody ever comes to visit."

Timmy's heart felt funny. "I'll visit you!" he promised.

Barnaby's eyes twinkled. "Then you must try my special pitch." He reached behind a nearby tree and pulled out the biggest, brightest orange fruit Timmy had ever seen. "This is a magic papaya from the hidden grove. If you can hit it with your bat, you'll see something wonderful."

Timmy gripped his bat tight. Barnaby wound up like a professional pitcher and tossed the papaya. It spun through the air like a sunset-colored comet. CRACK! Timmy made contact.

The papaya burst into golden sparkles that swirled around them both. Suddenly, the grassy hill transformed. A sparkling stream of clear water bubbled up from nowhere, and trees of every fruit appeared.

"This was once a magical orchard," Barnaby said softly. "It disappeared when people stopped visiting each other. Your friendship brought it back."

Every day after school, Timmy returned. They played baseball with papayas, and other children soon joined them. The magical orchard grew and grew, filled with laughter and the sound of bats hitting fruit.

Timmy learned that the best magic isn't in papayas or streams — it's in kindness, friendship, and never being too busy to say hello to someone lonely, even if they're a bull on a hill.
