The Papaya Patch Mystery

Lily was playing in her garden when she heard a splash. She peeked through the fence and saw something wonderful—her new neighbor Carlos had a puppy! The little **dog** was wagging its tail so hard it looked like it might fly off into the sky.

"Hi! I'm Lily," she called through the fence. "I think we could be **friend**s. What's your puppy's name?"

Carlos smiled. "This is Mango! Want to come see something magical?"

Lily's mom said she could visit, and soon she was following Carlos and Mango to the edge of his yard, where a small stream bubbled over smooth stones. "My grandmother planted something special here," Carlos said, pointing to a heart-shaped leaf. "She said it needs pure spring **water** to grow sweet."

To Lily's surprise, a bright orange fruit was hiding under the leaves—a **papaya**! It glowed golden in the sunlight like a tiny sun trapped on Earth.

"It's perfect!" said Carlos, carefully picking it. "Grandma says papayas have magic inside. They're packed with **vitamin** C that makes you strong and healthy!"

They cut it open right there by the stream. The inside was soft and bright orange, filled with shiny black seeds like little jewels. Lily had never tasted anything so sweet—it was like sunshine and happiness mixed together.

Mango begged for a taste, and Carlos gave him a small piece. The puppy licked it up and did a happy dance, making both children laugh.

"We should share this with others," Lily said suddenly. "Your grandmother planted it, but we're enjoying it together. That's what friends do."

Carlos nodded. "You're right. Let's bring some to my grandma and your mom!"

That afternoon, they learned that the sweetest things in life are even better when shared. And Mango? He decided papayas were his second favorite thing—right after belly rubs from his two favorite friends.
