The Papaya Padel Champion

Lily loved running through the Whispering Woods, where the trees sang and the flowers danced. Every afternoon after school, she'd race along the winding paths, her silver braids flying behind her.

One day, while running past the old mango grove, she heard a strange sound—*thwack, thwack, thwack.* Curious, Lily peeked through the leaves and gasped.

There, in a secret clearing, stood a creature the kids at school called the Zombie of the Woods. His skin was pale green, his eyes were dreamy, and he shuffled slowly, dragging his feet. But instead of looking scary, he was smiling and holding a padel racquet, hitting a bright yellow ball against an ancient tree.

*Thwack!* The ball bounced back, and the Zombie shuffled to hit it again.

Lily stepped forward, her heart pounding. "Hello?"

The Zombie froze. Slowly, he turned. His green face looked worried. "You're not scared of me?"

"Should I be?" Lily asked. "You look like you're having fun."

The Zombie's face lit up. "I love padel! But everyone runs away when they see me. They say I'm scary."

Lily frowned. She'd heard the stories. But looking at him—holding his racquet like a treasure, wearing a homemade jersey woven from vines—she didn't see a monster. She saw someone lonely who just wanted a friend.

"I'm Lily," she said. "Want to play together?"

His eyes widened. "Really?"

"Yes! But first..." She pointed to a basket sitting by his tree. "What's in there?"

"Papayas!" he said proudly. "My favorite. Would you like one? They're sweet as sunshine."

Lily had never tried papaya, but when the Zombie sliced one open, it glowed golden inside. One bite and she was in love—it tasted like magic!

They played padel all afternoon. The Zombie, whose name was Zeb, taught her tricks. Lily taught him to run and laugh and not worry about what others thought.

"People judge by appearances," Zeb said sadly, hitting the ball perfectly. "But inside, I'm just someone who loves games and papayas."

Lily smiled. "Then we'll show them."

The next day, Lily brought her friends to the grove. At first, they were scared. But when they saw Zeb hit a perfect padel shot and shared his delicious papayas, everything changed. Soon, the whole neighborhood came to play. The Zombie of the Woods became Zeb the Padel Champion, and the Whispering Woods filled with laughter and friendship.

Lily learned that day: the scariest monsters are just misunderstandings waiting to become friends—and sometimes, all it takes is one person brave enough to say hello.
