The Papaya Moon Pool
Lily loved the night sky. Every summer evening, she would sit by the backyard pool and watch the stars twinkle above the water's reflection. But tonight was special — it was the night of the Papaya Moon, her grandmother had said.
The pool water shimmered with an unusual golden glow. Lily dipped her toes in, and suddenly the water began to bubble and sparkle like tiny stars falling into a magical cauldron. Then, rising from the center of the pool, appeared the most magnificent creature she had ever seen.
It was a bull, but not like any bull from the farm. His fur was studded with constellations, his horns gleamed like moonlight, and his eyes held the wisdom of a thousand years.
"Hello, young star-gazer," the bull spoke, his voice gentle like distant thunder. "I am Taurus, guardian of the Papaya Moon. Once every hundred years, I visit pools where children's hearts are pure and full of wonder."
Lily's eyes widened. "But why papayas?"
Taurus smiled. "Ah, that is the magical part! In the sky constellation, there once grew a single papaya fruit filled with stardust. When it ripened, its seeds scattered across the universe, planting dreams in the hearts of children everywhere."
The bull reached into the starry water and pulled out a glowing golden papaya. "This papaya holds your special dream. Take it, but remember — the sweetest dreams are those shared with others."
Lily took the papaya, its warmth filling her hands. But then she thought of her little brother Tom, who always wanted to see magic but was too afraid to look at the night sky.
"Can Tom have a piece?" she asked.
Taurus's constellation eyes sparkled brighter. "That, dear Lily, is why you were chosen. Selflessness makes magic stronger."
The papaya split in two, each piece still glowing. Lily ran inside to wake Tom, and together they watched as Taurus dissolved into a thousand stars that joined his brothers and sisters in the night sky.
Every night since, when Lily and Tom swim in their pool, they see the constellation Taurus shining brighter than all the others, reminding them that the best magic is the kind you share.
