The Papaya Dragon's Secret
Lily discovered something wonderful in her grandmother's garden. A papaya the size of a football glowed with golden light!
"Grandma! Come quick!" Lily called, but her grandmother was busy inside. That's when the papaya spoke.
"Young one, I've been waiting for you," said the papaya in a voice like chimes. "I am Pipa, the last papaya dragon. My magic grows weak."
Lily's eyes widened. "A dragon? But you're a fruit!"
"My true form was hidden long ago," Pipa explained. "The Wisp Wire—that's what you call a cable—trapped my power. Only someone with a pure heart can free me."
Lily wanted to help. She ran inside and grabbed her dad's old iphone from the drawer. Her grandmother had told her it could capture light and magic.
"What are you doing, sweetie?" Grandma asked.
"Helping a dragon!" Lily said, rushing back to the garden.
Pipa glowed brighter. "The iphone holds the key! Hold it up to the moon, then touch my stem with the charging cable."
Lily did exactly that. The moon's light flowed through the phone screen, down the cable, and into the papaya.
CRACK! The papaya split open, and out popped a tiny dragon no bigger than a robin, with scales the color of sunset and wings like stained glass.
"Thank you, Lily!" Pipa danced in the air, leaving trails of glitter. "For your kindness, I offer you a gift."
The dragon touched Lily's forehead with her snout. Suddenly, Lily could understand what all the garden plants were saying!
"The roses are gossiping about bees," Lily laughed. "And the tomatoes are complaining about the heat!"
"Use your gift wisely," Pipa said, growing larger until she was the size of a cat. "True magic isn't about power—it's about listening to what others need."
Lily promised she would. Every day after school, she tended the garden, talking with plants and helping them grow strong. The other kids thought she was silly, talking to vegetables.
But Lily knew something they didn't: sometimes the smallest papaya holds the biggest magic, if you have enough heart to believe.
And whenever Pipa flew overhead on silver wings, leaving star-dust in her wake, Lily waved, knowing her best friend was never far away.
