The Palm Tree Who Woke Up

zombiepadelfriendpalm

Every morning, ten-year-old Leo walked past the sleepy palm tree near the padel court. Its fronds drooped down like it was still wearing pajamas.

"You look like a zombie," Leo giggled, tapping the trunk. "Wake up, Mr. Palm!"

One Saturday, Leo was practicing padel alone against the wall. *Whack, whack, whack.* The ball bounced everywhere. He wasn't very good, but he loved the sound of the racquet hitting the ball.

Suddenly, a coconut dropped right beside him. *BONK.*

Leo looked up. The palm tree's fronds were perking up, wiggling as if stretching. Then, impossible as it seemed, one long frond reached down and batted the padel ball back to him.

Leo gasped. The ball hit his racquet with perfect timing. *WHACK.*

The palm tree's frond swished happily. Its coconuts clinked together like laughter.

"You're alive!" Leo whispered, grinning. "You're not a zombie anymore. You're AWAKE."

From that day on, Leo had the best friend ever. Mr. Palm helped him practice padel, bouncing balls back with clever frond-flicks. When Leo missed a shot, the palm tree sprinkled him with gentle palm bits, like confetti.

Other kids thought Leo was crazy, talking to a tree. But Leo didn't care. Mr. Palm was the best listener, the best padel partner, and the most magical friend in the world.

Sometimes, Leo realized, the best friends aren't the ones you expect. They might be quiet. They might be different. They might even be trees.

And every morning, the palm tree waited, fronds perky and ready, for its friend to arrive.

"Game on, Mr. Palm," Leo would say, racquet in hand.

And the palm tree would swish its leaves: *Game on.*
