The Palm Tree's Secret Pool
Lily loved the old palm tree in her backyard. Its leaves looked like giant green hands reaching for the sky. Every morning, she would wave to the tree, and somehow, the leaves seemed to wave back.
One hot summer afternoon, Lily noticed something strange. A small pool of shimmering blue water had appeared at the base of the palm tree. But this wasn't just any pool — the water sparkled like someone had mixed moonlight into it.
"Hello?" she called softly.
A tiny head popped up from the water. It was a miniature turtle with a shell that gleamed like pearls. "Hello, Lily! I've been waiting for you!"
"Waiting for me?" Lily's eyes grew wide. "But how do you know my name?"
"The magical palm tree told me," the turtle said, swimming in graceful circles. "My name is Tilly, and this is the Wishing Pool. It appears only for children with kind hearts."
Lily knelt beside the pool. "A Wishing Pool? Like in fairy tales?"
"Better than fairy tales!" Tilly swam closer. "You can make one wish, but there's a secret. The best wishes are ones that help others."
Lily thought hard. She could wish for toys, or candy, or even a trip to the moon. But then she remembered her friend Sam, who had broken his leg and couldn't play outside all summer. Sam loved swimming but couldn't get to the community pool.
"I wish," Lily said slowly, "that Sam could go swimming, even with his broken leg."
The water began to glow. The palm tree's leaves rustled, even though there was no wind. Suddenly, the pool grew bigger and deeper, right there in her backyard!
Tilly smiled. "The palm tree will keep this pool magical until Sam's leg heals. Every day at sunset, you can both come swimming."
That evening, Lily brought Sam to the magical pool. His eyes lit up when he saw it. The water was perfect — not too deep, not too cold, and somehow, it supported his injured leg perfectly.
"This is the best day ever!" Sam laughed, splashing happily.
As the sun set, the palm tree's leaves whispered in the breeze. Lily waved to her tree friend, and this time, she was sure the tree waved back. She had learned something wonderful: the best magic isn't just about making wishes come true — it's about making wishes come true for others.
And every evening that summer, beneath the swaying palm, two friends swam in a pool of moonlight and magic.
