The Palm Tree's Secret Gift
Lily loved the old palm tree at the edge of her garden. Its fronds swayed like dancing green ribbons in the breeze, and she sometimes imagined it waved back at her when she skipped past.
One sunny morning, Lily noticed something strange. A perfect orange fruit hung from the palm's highest branch—but palm trees don't grow oranges! Lily's curly brown hair bounced as she jumped up, trying to see better. That's when she heard a tiny giggle.
"Looking for this?" A small boy with silver hair that sparkled like moonlight peeked from behind the trunk. "I'm Oliver. The tree told me you'd come today."
Lily's eyes widened. "You can talk to trees?"
"Only the magical ones." Oliver grinned. "This isn't just any orange. It's a Friendship Vitamin from the Secret Garden. It only appears when someone needs a true friend."
He plucked the glowing orange and split it between them. Inside, the sections were shaped like tiny hearts.
"What's a vitamin do for friends?" Lily asked.
"Take it and see!" Oliver said.
They ate the orange together. Suddenly, Lily felt warmth spreading through her chest—like being hugged by sunshine. She could suddenly hear what Oliver was feeling: his nervousness about meeting someone new, his hope that she'd like him, his kindness.
"I can feel your feelings!" Lily gasped.
"And I can feel yours too," Oliver whispered. "You've been lonely lately. So have I."
The palm tree rustled its fronds above them, dropping palm flowers that drifted down like golden snow.
"Thank you," Lily whispered to the tree. In her palm, she found one last orange petal, shaped exactly like a heart.
From that day on, Lily and Oliver were the best of friends. And sometimes, when they sat under the palm tree together, it would gift them another special orange—because the best vitamin for friendship is simply sharing magic with someone who understands you.
