The Palm Tree's Secret Friend
Lily loved exploring the magical island behind her house. Every morning, she'd wave her open palm at the ancient palm tree standing tall near the beach, and the tree would wave back with its fronds!
One sunny day, Lily heard sniffles coming from behind the palm tree. She peeked around and gasped—a fluffy brown bear sat there, crying into his paws!
"Hello there," Lily said softly. "I'm Lily. What's your name?"
The bear looked up with big, gentle eyes. "I'm Barnaby," he rumbled. "Everyone runs away when they see me. They think I'm scary because I'm so big."
Lily reached out her palm. "I'm not scared. Would you like to be friends?"
Barnaby's face lit up. "Really?" He placed his giant paw carefully in her hand. They became instant friends.
That afternoon, something strange stumbled out of the forest. It had green skin, messy hair, and walked like its legs were made of jelly.
"A zombie!" Barnaby gasped, hiding behind the palm tree.
But Lily stepped forward bravely. The zombie looked sad and lonely, not scary at all.
"Hi there," she said. "I'm Lily. What's your name?"
The zombie blinked slowly. "Zzz... Zelda..." she mumbled, then smiled shyly. "I just moved here. Everyone runs away from me too."
Lily took Zelda's hand. "Well, you're our friend now. And Barnaby—" she called to the bear—"come meet Zelda! She's not scary either!"
Barnaby peeked out, then stepped forward. Zelda's green face brightened. Soon, all three were laughing and playing tag around the magical palm tree.
"The best friends," the wise old palm tree seemed to whisper with its swaying leaves, "are the ones brave enough to see with their hearts, not just their eyes."
From that day on, Lily, Barnaby, and Zelda were the best of friends, teaching everyone on the island that sometimes, the scariest-looking creatures just need someone to say hello.
