The Palm Tree's Secret Friend

palmwaterzombie

Lila loved spending her summer days at the beach. Every morning, she would run across the warm sand to visit her favorite spot—a tall, swaying **palm** tree that grew near the dunes.

"Hello, Mr. Palm!" Lila would say, pressing her hand against his rough bark. The leaves would rustle back, as if waving hello.

One hot afternoon, Lila noticed something strange. Near the water's edge, a small figure sat slumped over, looking sad and lonely. It had greenish skin and messy hair, but it didn't look scary at all. It looked... lost.

Lila approached carefully. "Hello? Are you okay?"

The figure looked up with sleepy eyes. "I'm a **zombie** named Zephyr," he mumbled. "But I'm not like the ones in stories. I'm just very, very tired. I've been walking for days and I can't remember where my home is."

Lila's heart went out to him. She knelt down. "You don't look scary. You look like you need a friend."

Zephyr's eyes brightened. "I haven't had a friend in a very long time. Everyone runs away when they see me."

"Not me," Lila said firmly. "Come with me. I know somewhere special."

She led Zephyr to her favorite **palm** tree. "This is Mr. Palm. He's the best listener in the whole world."

Zephyr sat beneath the tree's shade. Almost immediately, something magical happened. As the **palm** leaves rustled in the breeze, Zephyr's greenish skin began to turn pink and healthy. His messy hair smoothed itself out.

"I feel... awake!" Zephyr exclaimed, jumping up. "I remember now! I'm not really a zombie—I was under a sleepy spell! My real home is the magical island across the **water**!"

Lila watched in amazement as Zephyr transformed completely. He looked like a regular happy boy now, full of energy and light.

"Thank you, Lila," Zephyr said, giving her a big hug. "You saw me with your heart, not your fears. That broke the spell completely."

Lila learned something important that day: sometimes the things that seem scariest just need kindness to reveal their true selves. And true friendship can work magic like nothing else.

Every summer after that, Lila would look across the **water** and wave. Sometimes, she'd see Zephyr waving back from his magical island,永远 grateful for the girl who saw past his zombie exterior to the friend within.
