The Palm Tree's Magic Vitamin
Lily loved climbing the old palm tree behind her house. It was the tallest tree on the island, with rough bark that tickled her hands and leaves that danced in the wind like green ribbons. Every afternoon after school, she'd scramble up to her favorite branch and wave at her best friend Kai across the street.
One day, something strange happened. As Lily reached for her usual branch, the palm tree actually MOVED. The frond pulled away!
"Hey!" Lily laughed, trying again. The tree moved again, almost like it was... shy.
Then she heard a voice. "I'm too tired to play today."
Lily gasped. "Who said that?"
A little face appeared in the tree trunk — a tiny forest spirit with leafy hair and worried eyes. "I did. I'm Palmy, the tree spirit. And I'm in BIG trouble."
Palmy explained that a grumpy zombie gardener had been stealing all the magical vitamins from the forest soil. These special vitamins gave trees energy to grow their leaves and stay strong. Without them, the trees were becoming weak and sluggish.
"A zombie gardener?" Lily's eyes went wide. "That sounds scary!"
"Not really," Palmy sighed. "He's just lonely and doesn't know how to make friends. So he takes our vitamins instead."
Lily's mind raced. "Maybe he just needs to feel included! What if we invite him to help us plant new seeds instead of stealing vitamins?"
Together, Lily and Palmy found the zombie gardener — a friendly fellow named Zeb who was startled anyone wanted to talk to him. When Lily invited him to help plant a community garden, his whole face lit up (well, as much as a zombie's face can).
"You really want my help?" Zeb asked.
"Absolutely!" Lily said. "We could use someone strong to carry the big bags of soil!"
By sunset, Zeb was happily working alongside the other children, planting flowers and vegetables. The magical vitamins returned to the forest, and the trees began to perk up immediately.
That night, Lily climbed her palm tree one more time. "Thanks, Palmy," she whispered, patting the trunk. "I learned something important today."
"What's that?" Palmy asked.
"Sometimes what seems like a monster is just someone who needs a friend."
