The Palm Tree's Lightning Magic

Luna loved visiting her grandmother's house by the sea. Every summer, she would spend hours swimming in the crystal blue water, splashing and diving until her toes wrinkled like little raisins.

But Luna's favorite spot wasn't the beach. It was behind Grandma's house, where an old palm tree stood. Its trunk was twisted and funny, like it was dancing. The leaves up top swayed and whispered secrets when the wind blew.

"Hello, Palm," Luna would say, patting its rough bark. "What stories do you know?"

One night, a storm rolled in. Thunder rumbled like a hungry tummy. Rain pattered against the roof. Luna watched from the window when suddenly — FLASH!

A bolt of purple lightning zig-zagged through the sky, looking for somewhere to land. It bounced off clouds and spiraled down, landing right on the palm tree!

Luna ran outside in her raincoat. The palm tree wasn't hurt. Instead, it was glowing softly, its fronds shimmering with tiny sparks that looked like captured stars.

"Thank you," the palm tree seemed to say, though trees don't really talk. Luna felt it in her heart.

The next day, Luna brought her new friend Leo to meet the palm. Leo had just moved next door and was lonely.

"Trees are boring," Leo said, crossing his arms.

"Not this one," Luna smiled. She placed her palm against the bark. "Watch."

She whispered to the tree, and suddenly — POP! POP! POP! Tiny lightning bolts danced from the leaves, spelling out HELLO in sparkles before fading away.

Leo's eyes grew wide as dinner plates. "How did you DO that?"

"Magic friendship," Luna said. "The lightning chose our tree because it knew we would care for it."

From that day on, Luna and Leo were best friends. They discovered that the palm tree's magic only worked when they were together — because magic, they learned, is always better when shared.

Every time they placed their palms against the tree together, it would light up with tiny lightning bolts, creating the most beautiful nightlight in the whole world.

And sometimes, if they listened very carefully, they could hear the palm tree whisper: "True friends shine brightest together."
