The Palm Tree Pitcher

Emma loved baseball more than anything. Every day after school, she'd grab her worn-out glove and walk to the empty field behind her house. But there was one problem — she had no one to play with. The other kids were always too busy.

One afternoon, Emma sat beneath the swaying palm tree at the edge of the field, tossing her baseball up and catching it again. lonely tears filled her eyes.

"I wish I had a friend who loved baseball as much as I do," she whispered.

Suddenly, something magical happened. The palm tree's leaves shimmered, and from behind the thick trunk stepped the most surprising visitor — a great brown bull with kind, twinkling eyes.

Emma gasped. "B-bulls don't play baseball!"

But this bull did. He nudged Emma's glove with his velvety nose, then picked up the baseball gently between his lips and placed it in her palm. His name was Barnaby, and he'd watched Emma practice for weeks from his farm across the river.

"I've always dreamed of playing baseball," Barnaby said in a deep, rumbly voice. "May I join you?"

Emma grinned wider than ever before. She taught Barnaby how to bat with his horns and run the bases (well, trot them). In return, the bull showed her something amazing — he could pitch perfectly! His nose was the perfect curve for throwing strikeouts.

They played every sunset, under the palm tree's golden light. Emma had finally found not just a baseball buddy, but a true friend.

But too soon, Barnaby's farmer came looking for him. "Bulls belong in pastures, not baseball fields," he said sternly.

Emma's heart broke. Until the farmer watched Barnaby pitch a perfect strike.

"Well, I never," the farmer exclaimed, scratching his head. "I suppose there's no rule against a bull who loves the game."

From that day on, Emma and Barnaby played baseball every evening, proving that friendship and magic can be found in the most unexpected places — even beneath a friendly palm tree, with a bull who pitches curveballs.
