The Palm Tree Bears
Tommy was sad. He had no friends to play baseball with in his new neighborhood. Every afternoon, he'd sit under the tall palm tree in his backyard, tossing his baseball up and catching it, wishing someone would play with him.
One magical evening, as the sun painted the sky pink and orange, something extraordinary happened. A tiny bear cub, no bigger than a coconut, climbed down the palm tree! But this wasn't an ordinary bear – it wore a tiny baseball cap and carried a miniature bat.
"Hi Tommy!" the bear squeaked. "I'm Benny! I've been watching you play. Can I join?"
Tommy's eyes widened. "You can talk? And you like baseball?"
"All the best bears love baseball!" Benny said, climbing to the top of his palm tree. "Watch this!"
Benny shook the palm fronds, and suddenly, more little bears tumbled down like coconuts – each wearing a different colored cap. They giggled and rolled in the grass.
"We're the Palm Tree Bears!" announced the biggest bear, who wore a catcher's mitt. "We play baseball every night when the moon comes up. Will you be our captain?"
Tommy's heart soared. He wasn't lonely anymore. That night, under twinkling stars, they played the most magical game ever. The palm tree served as their backstop, and fireflies lit up the field like stadium lights. The bears weren't very good at baseball – one kept trying to hug the ball instead of catching it – but Tommy had never had so much fun.
"I'll come back every night!" Tommy promised as his new friends climbed back up their palm tree to sleep.
Benny waved from his favorite frond. "And we'll teach you something important, Tommy: friends can be found in the most unexpected places – even in your own backyard!"
From that day on, Tommy never felt lonely again. His palm tree baseball team was the best friends a boy could ever ask for.
