The Palm Tree Ballpark
Leo loved two things more than anything else: baseball and his grandpa's magical garden. But he hated spinach. "It's just green mush," he'd say, pushing it around his plate.
One day, Leo hit his baseball so high it disappeared into the giant palm tree in Grandpa's backyard. When he climbed up to find it, he discovered something amazing—a whole world hidden in the palm fronds!
A tiny fairy named Pip flew out on a sparkly spider-silk cable. "You've found the Secret Stadium!" she squealed. "We need your help. The Big Game is tomorrow, but our team has no energy."
Leo looked around. Hundreds of little fairies sat on leaves, looking sad and tired. "What's wrong?" he asked.
"We forgot to eat our power food," Pip said. "Do you know what gives fairy athletes their strength?"
Leo shook his head.
"Spinach leaves!" Pip announced. "Just like in your stories, but better. Our spinach makes you fly faster, hit farther, and never give up!"
Leo couldn't believe it. Spinach? The green mush? But then he watched Pip munch on a tiny leaf and zoom around him like a shooting star.
"Okay," Leo said slowly. "But I'll try it too. If it's good enough for fairies, it's good enough for me."
Together, Leo and Pip climbed down the palm tree, gathered fresh spinach from Grandpa's garden, and made fairy-sized baseball salads. The next day, Leo helped the fairies win their championship game, hitting home runs that sparkled like fireworks.
"See?" Pip said afterward. "Sometimes the things we think we don't like are exactly what we need most."
Leo smiled, taking a bite of spinach at dinner that night. It still tasted green, but now it tasted like magic too. And every time he looked at the palm tree, he wondered what other surprises were hiding in the places he thought he knew best.
